How to deepen the understanding of SEF? The bridge auctions volume 3 is the last volume of work accomplished by three of the best specialists in the discipline to offer you the answers to the questions you are asking yourself, to really develop all the auction situations in depth and to suggest avenues for progress.

After a first volume devoted to auctions for two, a second, subtitled auctions for four and dedicated to auctions of the camp which has not opened, this third and last volume approaches competitive auctions from the camp's point of view. 'opener.

In this third volume you will find a number of frequent and important situations, like everything related to the different Sputnik counters, the rest of the auctions when the opponent intervenes with a counter appeal, by 1SA, by a barrage.

You will also discover the developments to adopt if the opponent intervenes on your precise openings, from 1SA to your own dam openings through the strong openings at the level of 2, 2¨ or 2 ©. The second part of the book completes the previous one by explaining all the awakening situations, whether it is an awakening on the opening, more technical, or after an elaborate sequence where it is more judgment that is sought.

The work accomplished must be praised without reluctance, which makes the intricacies of a system which, although appearing official, until then not always so easy to grasp, accessible to all club players. The publication of this third volume, however, calls for two remarks.

On the one hand, a number of the situations described, which quite logically have their place in a work which presents a coherent system, have hitherto been absent from the SEF. This is the case, for example, of the Rubensohl, defense system against interventions on 1SA, or modifications to the bids if the opponent intervenes on a weak 2. The authors therefore had to exercise choices, hoping to obtain the approval of their readers first, of the editors of future versions of the SEF then.

On the other hand, examining competitive sequences would not be very convincing if the authors did not provide us with some effective behavior keys. Suddenly, there more than elsewhere, it will be a question of judgment of the hands, a bias that no reader eager for progress can seriously challenge.

All decidedly form a staple of the library of the honest French bridge player of the early twenty-first century.

Immerse yourself in the delights of competitive auctions without moderation. Your pleasure in bridge auctions will be renewed.
